The Archaeo-mining Park of San Silvestro, located on the hills of Campiglia Marittima, tells the story of a vast mining area, characterized by its copper, lead and silver deposits. Here, you have the opportunity to board a mining train and live the inimitable experience of travelling the mineral extraction and processing sites, crossing the Lanzi-Temperino Tunnel (where the temperature is 13-14° C): enjoy a new way of experiencing “history”. The heart of the park is Rocca San Silvestro, a medieval mining and metalworking town. Radiant and proud, this stronghold dominates the surrounding countryside, guarding its “piece” of history.

The Rocca Aldobrandesca is the symbol of Suvereto: once a tower erected by the Aldobrandeschi family to guard their fief in the Maremma area, the structure was then transformed into a XIV century Pisan fortress and has always embodied the history and identity of the town. The halls of the Museum set up within the Rocca will allow you to rediscover historical episodes and founding characters, from the journeys of the emperor Henry VII to princess Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, while enjoying the typical characteristics of a free and open place, a land of transhumance and wine-making.

This Museum hosts Maria Micaelli’s extraordinary collection. More than 50 dolls, dating back from the end of the nineteenth century up until the 1980s, including unique items and artistic and artisanship masterpieces created by the most important Italian manufacturers. This surprising itinerary narrates a history of customs, styles and materials – from porcelain to bisque, from rag to celluloid, along with thin felt, cloth and papier-mâché – illustrating specific moments of recent Italian history. Some of the most important specimens are those made by the Turin-based manufacturer Lenci, including Violetta (1921), the symbol of Museum, inspired by the protagonist of Verdi’s opera La Traviata.
