37 km of trails among chestnut trees, holm oaks and oaks
Trekking in Tuscany? The Poggio Neri Forest Park is an ideal destination for trekking, horse riding and mountain bike enthusiasts, to explore an enchanting corner of Val di Cornia.
In the park you can discover the ancient trade of the charcoal burner; the life of the charcoal burners and how they worked is reconstructed at the Museum in the Wood and along the Via del Carbone.
The Museum in the Wood is a theme-based trail in the wood, where the everyday life and work of chestnut collectors and charcoal burners is reconstructed. Along the way you will encounter a hut, a furnace, a coal cellar…
Instead, the Via del Carbone is a trail with panels that describe the trade of the charcoal burner. Unfortunately, the art of the charcoal burner has almost completely disappeared and continues to live only thanks to the experience and testimony of the men who have dedicated their life to this ancient trade.
In the park there are 37 km of equipped paths among splendid examples of chestnut trees, holm oaks and oaks.
