Located on the seafront, in the old town of Piombino, in the princely building commissioned by Elisa Baciocchi, Napoleon’s sister, this is one of the most important archaeological museums in Tuscany, with more than 2,000 finds on display.
A family friendly museum with air-conditioned rooms, that takes you on a journey through the ancient territory of Populonia; a chronological journey from the Prehistoric Period to Late Antiquity.
Starting from the first example of Prehistoric art, you then move on to the early bronze and iron productions, to then discover how the Etruscans worked the precious metals and how they banqueted and honoured their departed, accompanied by music played on the reconstructed ancient instruments on display in the museum.
You can also enjoy the unique multi-sensory itinerary, with reconstructed models of three symbols of ancient Populonia: the ancient Tomba dei Carri, that can be visited at the Park, the mosaic with a marine scene from the Acropolis of Populonia and the silver Amphora of Baratti, unique piece recovered from the sea.
