Car Parks along the Coast
There is a system of pay and display car parks along the coast of the Sterpaia Park (East Coast of Piombino) and the Gulf of Baratti whose management and seasonal tariffs are regulated by resolutions passed by the Piombino Local Council.

Capacity and intended use
Most of the car parks are for cars only but there are also some car parks for caravans and camper vans with loading and discharge service.

Payment for parking in parking lots is made through an automatic parking meter. The parking meters are always located at the entrance of each parking lot and also inside the parking lots themselves.
- Payment via smartphone app (easypark and mooneygo) is available.
- The parking meters installed in car and camper parking lots all operate with coins; by April 15, 2025, payment will also be possible with credit card, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay
Discounts on tariffs: non-resident users
Non-resident users can purchase a Parking Pass, valid for one week and for one vehicle only at a price of € 50.00 for cars.
Until 4 October 2026, the subjects indicated in letters a), b) and c), providing that they have paid the Tourist Tax and other local taxes, can purchase season tickets from Parchi Val di Cornia spa, without the possibility of reserving spaces, valid in the car parks listed:
- a) accommodation facilities located in the towns of Val di Cornia can purchase season tickets to offer to their guests. At the end of every month, the accommodation facilities repay the Town the amount collected from sales of these season tickets. Subjects obliged to fill in the annual Tourist Tax declaration must attach the statement of the sales made (Form 21);
- b) owners or subjects with the right to use homes located in the Municipality of Piombino but not resident there, that directly use or rent out same homes to tourists;
- c) tenants of berths in the marinas of Baratti and Carbonifera that provide documentary evidence of the right.
The season ticket must indicate the period of validity and the registration number of the vehicle and it must be positioned in a clearly visible spot inside the vehicle. The validities and costs are indicated below:

NEW 2026 – PARKING PASS PURCHASE METHODS
Starting this year, parking goes digital: the parking permit will be issued exclusively in electronic format. It will no longer be necessary to display a paper ticket on the car, as checks will be carried out automatically via the license plate, verifying whether the vehicle is associated with a valid subscription.
The documents required for issuance vary depending on the type of pass.
Non-resident – car:
- Vehicle registration certificate
- Tax code (codice fiscale) of the parking pass holder to allow invoice issuance
Second-home owners:
- ID of the property owner/tenant
- Self-declaration affidavit
- Tax code (codice fiscale) of the parking pass holder to allow invoice issuance
Boat berth renters:
- Vehicle registration certificate
- Rental/purchase contract or payment receipt
- Tax code (codice fiscale) of the parking pass holder to allow invoice issuance
PLEASE NOTE: starting this year, it is also mandatory to provide the tax code (codice fiscale) of the parking pass holder to allow invoice issuance.
PURCHASE METHODS AND SALES POINTS
The digitalization process is designed to simplify the user experience: by spring, it will be possible to purchase the Parking Pass conveniently online from home.
In the meantime, the pass will be available for purchase starting Wednesday, March 25, at the Archaeological Museum of Piombino, in Piazza Cittadella.
Parchi Val di Cornia spa staff’s services
Information service; daily cleaning behind the dunes and the parking areas for cars and caravans; maintenance of pedestrian and cycle paths; installation of directional signs and signposting; environmental monitoring service.
Camper van loading and discharge service
The water loading and discharge service is free of charge. The service is available 24/24 on the days when the car parks are open.
Fines
Breaches of tariff rules will be prosecuted in accordance with the ANPIL Municipal Regulation concerning fines.
Getting here
- From Livorno and Grosseto: take the Vignale-Riotorto junction on the Variante Aurelia (S.S. 1). Follow the directions for Piombino; there are signs to all the car parks, all on the coast side of the road.
- From Piombino: follow the signs for Riotorto on the geodetic baseline road; there are signs to all the car parks, all on the coast side of the road.
Gulf of Baratti Car Park
Access to the Gulf
The Gulf of Baratti has unique landscape and natural characteristics that must be protected also by controlling car, camper van and coach access.
In periods of peak tourist influx, vehicles that are wider than 2 metres, including camper vans, are not permitted (municipal ordinance). The Caldanelle car park can be used (entrance to Baratti).
Capacity and intended use
The car parks at the Gulf of Baratti are for cars only, except for Caldanelle that has parking spaces for 70 caravans and camper vans with water loading and discharge service. Instead, Casone is reserved for visitors to the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia in possession of an entrance ticket; there are also 60 pay and display spaces.

The water loading and discharge service at the Caldanelle car park is free of charge. The service is available 24/24 on the days when the car park is open.

Da quest’anno il parcheggio passa al digitale: il permesso di sosta sarà emesso esclusivamente in formato elettronico. Non sarà più necessario esporre il tagliando cartaceo sull’auto, poiché i controlli verranno effettuati automaticamente tramite la targa, verificando se il veicolo è associato a un abbonamento valido.
I documenti necessari al rilascio sono diversi in base alla tipologia di pass.
PER I RESIDENTI
- Residente auto:
- Libretto di circolazione
- Documento di identità del proprietario dell’auto
- In caso di auto aziendale anche dichiarazione in cui sia specificato a chi è dato in uso il mezzo (dipendente, amministratore società ecc.) Che deve comunque essere residente in uno dei comuni della val di Cornia e che deve dimostrarlo attraverso un documento di identità valido
- Codice fiscale dell’intestatario della parking pass per consentire l’emissione della fattura

MODALITA’ DI ACQUISTO E PUNTI VENDITA
Il processo di digitalizzazione è pensato per semplificare l’esperienza degli utenti: entro la primavera sarà, infatti, possibile acquistare il Parking Pass comodamente online, da casa.
Nel frattempo, il pass è disponibile all’acquisto a partire da mercoledì 25/03 presso il Museo Archeologico di Piombino, in piazza Cittadella.
Sanzioni
Servizio di informazione; pulizia giornaliera del retroduna e delle aree di sosta per auto e caravan; manutenzione di sentieri pedonali e ciclabili; installazione di segnaletica direzionale e cartellonistica comportamentale; servizio di vigilanza ambientale.
Come arrivare
You can reach the Gulf of Baratti from the Principessa SP 23 main road that connects San Vincenzo to Piombino; it is clearly signposted. Access to the road in the Gulf is controlled.

Le violazioni tariffarie saranno perseguite secondo le norme sanzionatorie del Codice della Strada.

Al Golfo di Baratti si accede dalla strada provinciale della Principessa SP 23 che unisce San Vincenzo a Piombino, con ampia segnalazione in loco. La strada interna al Golfo ha accesso regolamentato (vedi Ordinanza Comune di Piombino)
